Imagining an old, walled Asian metropolis, AvroKO organized the awkwardly long, winding space into various bar-and-dining areas, each representing an important aspect of the city-within-a-city. The entryway stairwell, surrounded by hundreds of brass drawers, recalls a traditional herbal pharmacy. Elsewhere, hints of a communal market appear: vintage scales, water buckets, fishing weights, and a ceiling lined with large birdcages lit from within. The opulent VIP room, which has echoes of decadent opium dens, is covered with luxurious fabrics and lit by a chandelier made of 200 glass “opium pipes.”
