Situated in the historic Stephen Girard Building located in Philadelphia’s famed shopping district on Market Street, the design of Canopy by Hilton Philadelphia Center City was inspired by the golden era of department stores, specifically on East Market Street, which helped to shape the modern shopping experience in America.

Throughout the public spaces, references to varying storefronts and display cases are illustrated displaying everything from artwork to retail items. A modern interpretation of the building’s Beaux-Arts architecture is exemplified in the stepped ceiling trims, simple curved moulding and both bold and contrasting wall paneling. The design also pays respect to the early hip-hop culture arising from Philadelphia, specifically, the “big fashion” movement by incorporating bold colors, patterning on fabrics, and pops of metallic detailing for added glitz and glamour.

Big Fashion x Hip Hop

Throughout the property, nods to big fashion houses mix with playful art pieces and graphics inspired by Philadelphia's hip-hop roots to create an experience that's equally fun and high-end.

Bold colors and patterns play a central role in anchoring the space. The high-gloss dark green and deep blue paints provide a luxe feel making way for bursts of burnt orange accents and geometric patterns. Hair-on-hide area rugs and brass trimmings up the couture feel while the work of local artists dot the walls and shelves with hip-hop inspired collaborations and special edition collectibles.

Street Inspo

The public restroom is where the street inspiration comes alive featuring a custom herringbone stone tile floor, a pair of octagon brass-framed mirrors, and a custom graffiti-inspired wall covering on the stall doors. In the guest room corridors on the floors above, the richness of the dark blue paint is continued, punctuated by the Gucci-inspired green striped carpet and wall sconces that serve as the jewelry of the space.

Guest Room Glamour

Aiming to celebrate the grandeur of the building architecture style on a smaller scale, the architectural finishes are simple and enhanced by some modern touches including an oversized, custom canopy bed and custom central pendant adding a dose of style. The bathroom amps up the street style featuring a custom black and white wallcovering, brass elements throughout and custom graffiti-style art adding energy into the guest room experience.

Curved elements tie the rest of the room into the signature canopy bed.

Bold graphics, polished brass finishes, and local art inject energy into each space.

It's All In The Details

Intricate and innovative details add another layer of texture and visual interest that ties the guest room experience together. A chaise and desk casegood unit seamlessly harmonizes two furniture pieces in an unexpected way. The signature pendant adds modern flair juxtaposed against the historic ceiling rosette, its anchor point. Maroon bedside sconces, bold graphic and abstract area rugs, brass hardware and fixtures, and a custom bathroom wallcovering all bring different elements of the design's concept pillars to life.
