About

Originally constructed in 1929, Singapore’s Capitol Theater and its surrounding structures (including the Capitol Building and Stamford House) were transformed into a multi-use complex including hotel, restaurant, bar, retail and more, with master planning led by Pritzker Prize winning architect Richard Meier.
For the prime corner of the Stamford House property (circa 1904), AvroKO was brought on to design the signature restaurant concept, 15 Stamford, helmed by 3 Michelin-starred Celebrity chef Alvin Leung, also famously known as the “Demon Chef.” We celebrated the beautiful colonial building which reflects the neo-classical style popularized by key architect of the time, R.A.J Bidwell, who was behind the Raffles Hotel, while blending in distinct Southeast Asian accents.

Contrast and Pattern

The interiors are light and airy, with classic European colonial detailing found in the archways, columns, bar and wrought iron screens. Eclectic, Asian vernacular details familiar with the Singaporean community are found throughout, from sleek wooden slat screen dividers and doors in the central dining room to more minimalist woven grass and bamboo caning wall coverings in the PDR and peripheral lounges. While the design team pulled detailing from the past – including select Chinese antiques and vases that add flavor and color and a sense of place throughout – the space is overall quite modern with beautiful, polished stone surfaces and rich, supple leather furnishings.

A Gastronomic Vault

Nestled at the entrance to 15 Stamford lies a jewel box of a retail experience. Light drenched warm oaks and book-matched marbles are the backdrop for a myriad of high-end offerings including exquisite chocolates and brandies. These gastronomic gifts are treated with the reverence of fine jewelry. The space is framed with vault-like golden cages, lending an air of exclusivity which may be viewed from the hotel lobby, but can only be accessed via the restaurant.
