About

Denver’s historic train station, originally built in the late 1800s, has endured two centuries of change as the transportation hub for the West’s biggest city.
The “Dame of Denver,” Dana Crawford, brought on AvroKO to design three public spaces – The Great Hall, Terminal Bar and The Cooper Lounge – that would help define a new era for Union Station as Denver’s living room. Combining the romanticism of luxury train stations with the need for an eclectic social hub, AvroKO developed the station’s architectural elements while paying homage to the station’s history. Custom-made columns with built-in lighting were developed to provide more definition to the space without taking away from the overall grandeur. Custom-designed train benches were used as seating in the Great Hall, and both modern and classic furniture pieces with refined details, including Pullman car-inspired drinking booths in blue leather, were developed for the main space seating. Small nods to luxury travel can be seen throughout all areas of the project, including metal buckles, brass fittings, and caning that would have been found on vintage suitcases.
