Imagine taking a journey across continents and through cities without leaving your hotel. That was the aim of the design for both Rialto - the Italian brasserie - and The Fore - a 4-in-1 all day dining venue - in Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab.

For The Fore, the design was inspired by the idea of a ‘Grand Mansion’ and who you might imagine its owner to be. The 4-in-1 restaurant transforms from a beautiful, bright, pastel mansion in the morning to a dramatic series of venues in the evening. For Rialto, the design was inspired by the crescent-shaped Ligurian coast of Italy, as amplified by its distinctive design feature - the arched ceiling above the main dining room. The light and bright space draws from the 300 days of sunshine on the rugged coastline with colorful architecture that inspired the deep terracotta and blue tones found throughout the restaurant.

A Daily Metamorphosis

In order to successfully create a true 4-in-1 space that transforms four dining experiences from day to night, dramatic changes need to take place every day to bring a truly unique character to each venue that go beyond simply splitting the rooms or adjusting lighting levels.

Within each space, there are concealed sliding acoustic panels that separate each venue, creating the rooms within the mansion design narrative. Additionally, there are feature walls hidden behind fabric blinds that are pulled back in the evening to reveal new design details - wallcoverings, styling moments, textures and colors - that were not part of the morning experience and as such, tell a larger story about the venue experience. Furthermore, large operable ceilings, that look like skylights during the day, open to reveal intricate ceiling designs and feature lighting that lowers into the spaces for a more intimate environment for evening dining. New cushions are taken from the storage under the banquettes to add new accents to each venue. Host stands are placed at the entrances of each venue, and portal doors with venue logos are closed, creating a dramatic entry experience to each restaurant. Lastly the lighting levels, music, and individual bar carts specifically designed for each venue are brought into each space.

Sharing a Design Language

Because of the 4-in-1 nature of The Fore, sharing design details was an exciting challenge. Here, the neighboring Mediterranean restaurant blends seamlessly together with the Pan Asian restaurant in the morning setting. Giving very soft and subtle Asian-inspired design accents, all other expressive features are hidden, either behind the moving ceilings or one-way mirrored elements.

Seamless Transition

Guests walk through a “portal door” from The Fore's central Hub to the Japanese restaurant. What was previously a light open space, becomes an intimate restaurant with inspiration taken from “neo future Tokyo,” again with the use of operable blinds, operable ceilings, and sliding partitions. This transition creates a totally new venue for the evening dining experience.

The Hub is the Heart

The Hub is the jumping off point of The Fore. During morning and daytime hours, this central area is used for creating drinks to enjoy with breakfast. It has a clean, airy atmosphere, evoking a light and fresh experience. In the evening, like everything else in The Fore, the Hub transforms to an intimate pre-dining experience with artworks and features revealed by operable blinds and sliding screens.

Expert mixologists shake up cocktails and offer guests an engaging view on the outdoor terrace.
