About

Situated on the top floor of the Rosewood Hotel in Bangkok, Lennon’s is a lush, multi-faceted cocktail bar inspired by a delightfully curious mashup of styles. Inspirations range from a funky home recording studio mixed with space-age flair while taking artful references from the Vienna Secession period.

Upon exiting the elevators, a guest’s first surprising encounter is a sultry record shop that serves as an anti-room before entering the main bar. Bangkok’s largest selection of vintage vinyl is all for sale, or can be selected for the DJ to incorporate into their set. Offering stunning views of Bangkok, the main bar area features two cozy lounges flanking a central bar anchored by a soaring vertical chandelier inspired by Vienna Secession artistry. A spiral staircase leads to a clandestine smokers’ lounge replete with cigar humidor and smoking accessories. Throughout the venue, state of the art audio equipment creates a superb sound, respectable by any discerning audiophile’s standards.

For the Record

Over 6,000 vintage records ranging from American Rock to 1960’s Thai Pop envelope the walls and occupy highly customized viewing racks.

All records and cassettes (yes, cassettes!) are for sale, or can be selected and shared with the DJ to incorporate into the night’s audio set. A semi-private whiskey tasting room or “booth” is enclosed in glass and sits independently in the record shop entry. Sitting within it feels reminiscent of being in a performer’s or engineer’s booth; a private world but on full display.

Acoustic Attitudes

Pragmatic and utilitarian devices used in recording studios were re-envisioned to fit a more chic environment. The exaggerated, floor to ceiling barrel-tufted salmon upholstered walls, and patterned, perforated walnut wood paneling with acoustic material behind are more design-forward incarnations of acoustic management devices found in recording studios. Custom chandeliers are inspired by high end turntables, while many mirrors and paneling sections have speakers carefully embedded within them.

A Tale of Two Vintages

We surmised that a delightfully playful, eccentric mashup of wonderfully disparate styles would create never-before-seen results. The combination of rugged, vintage American audiophile trappings coupled with the delicacy of Vienna Secession detailing tickled us as a notion and enchanted our client. Below we’ve captured a collection of vintage recording instruments and records in front of our custom DJ station. At right is a glowing detail of the monolithic Vienna Succession-inspired chandelier over the bar.

Bound by Light

The bold, planar chandelier above the bar acts as the connective tissue between two opposing but equally comfy lounge spaces. The complex detailing is mesmerizing, and the slim, vertical design both helps delineate the bar area while adding spatial comfort by further defining the room volume as orthogonal and balanced, counteracting the drastic downward slant of the glass building facade behind it.
