About
Mattei’s Tavern has welcomed guests since the late 1880’s, when Swiss-Italian immigrant Felix Mattei built a modest two-story hotel in the Santa Ynez Valley.
Throughout its history, Mattei’s was unpretentious and simple, a place for weary stagecoach travelers, working rancheros, and the occasional Hollywood star. Today, Mattei’s Tavern maintains the same warm hospitality it has offered travelers since the stagecoach era. New buildings mix with historic structures, united by a sense of simplicity and ease that has defined Mattei’s for generations.

Celebrating The Past
Like Mattei’s itself, the furniture is layered and from different eras. Antique rugs, original light fixtures, and new leather club chairs create a comfortable and casual environment. Cozy and moody, the bar lounge is the hub of Mattei’s.

Guestrooms
The guestroom color palette was inspired by the landscape of the Santa Ynez Valley: muted lavenders and aubergines, burnt ochres with olive greens. White-painted wainscoting with oak flooring and exposed wood beams maintain the casual, country vibe of Mattei’s. Along with vintage-inspired furniture designs, the dramatic four-poster, ebonized oak bed anchors the guestroom in simplicity and understated details.
